HMS Daring (1893)

HMS Daring and HMS Decoy together made up the "Daring"-class of Torpedo Boat Destroyers which served with the Royal Navy during the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. They differed from the Ardent Class only in the provision of a bow mounted torpedo tube, which was later removed. On trial she made headlines as the 'Fastest Boat Ever' [cite web |url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C01E2D61031E033A25756C0A96E9C94659ED7CF|title=Fastest Boat Ever|publisher=New York Times|accessdate=2007-12-11] by achieving a speed of 28.21 knots. The introduction of steam turbines after 1897 quickly made her and her sisters obsolete and she was sold off in 1912.
