Yahya Kemal Beyatlı

Yahya Kemal Beyatlı (b. Ahmed Agâh, December 2 1884 – d. November 1 1958) was a leading Turkish poet and author, as well as a politician.

Biography

He was born in Skopje, Ottoman Empire, in 1884. He completed his secondary education at "Vefa Lisesi" in Istanbul. He moved to Paris, France in 1903 and educated in the Faculty of Political Sciences. Having spent 9 years in Paris, he returned to Istanbul in 1912. Between the years 1915 and 1923, he worked as a university lecturer.

In 1923, he was elected a member of parliament of the newly founded Turkish Republic. Then he made service in Warsaw and Madrid embassies from 1926 until 1935. Having returned to Turkey, he continued his political career as a member of parliament until 1946.
