- Avraham Katznelson
Dr Avraham Katznelson ( _he. אברהם קצנלסון, also known as Avraham Nissan, born 1888, died 1956) was a Zionist political figure in Mandate Palestine and a signatory of the Israeli declaration of independence.
Biography
A doctor and resident of
Jerusalem , Katznelson was a member of the central committees of bothMapai andHashomer Hatzair , [ [http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/history/modern%20history/israel%20at%2050/the%20signatories%20of%20the%20declaration%20of%20the%20establis The Signatories of the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel] Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs] representing the former in theVaad Leumi andMoetzet HaAm , and also serving as director of the health department of theZionist Executive . As such, in 1948 he was amongst the signatories of Israel's declaration of independence, and was immediately co-opted into theProvisional State Council . He was also involved in the foundation of the radio stationKol Yisrael , which began broadcasting on the day independence was declared.After independence he was appointed as an envoy to
Scandinavia and later took a Hebrew surname, Nissan.His sister Rachel was married to President
