Give One Get One (G1G1) [http://www.laptopgiving.org] is a special initiative of the OLPC Foundation (One Laptop per Child), formed in 2005 to build and distribute durable, versatile and ultra-low-cost laptop computers to address the critical education needs of impoverished children all over the world. The first XOs came off the production line in November, 2007. G1G1 kicks off OLPC's global introduction of the machines. For a short while, the project offers U.S. and Canadian residents a chance, for only $399, to donate one of the widely-praised laptops to a child in a developing nation, and also to receive one for their own use. $200 is tax-deductible ($399 minus the fair market value of the laptop that is received). The XO laptop features a unique, sunlight-readable screen, consumes low amounts of electricity and can be hand-powered. For the time being, Give One Get One will be the only available source of the machines for U.S./Canadian consumers.
