Eurico Gomes

Eurico Monteiro Gomes, known as Eurico (born Santa Marta de Penaguião, 29 September 1955) was a Portuguese footballer and a current trainer. He played as a central-defender for the main three teams of Portugal, Benfica, in 1977/1978, Sporting Lisbon, for 1980/1981 and 1981/1982, and FC Porto, from 1982/1983 to 1985/1986. He won several national titles and also played at the Cup Winners Cup final, in 1984, lost (1-2) by FC Porto to Juventus, from Italy. He left football, in 1986, to start a trainer career.

He won 38 caps for Portugal national football team, scoring one goal. His first game was a 1-0 win over USA national football team, at 20 September 1978, in a friendly game, and his last one was a 0-2 defeat to Italy national football team, at 3 April 1985, in another amicable match.

He played all the four games at Euro 1984 finals, were Portugal reached the 3 rd place.
