Hilda Ramsay

Hilda Ramsay

Hilda Ramsay was a Canadian politician, who was the first woman ever to campaign for election to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island.

A resident of Indian River, Ramsay stood for the electoral district of 3rd Prince in the 1951 election as a Cooperative Commonwealth Federation candidate. She was not elected, however, losing to Liberal candidate Frank MacNutt.

Jean Canfield became in 1970 the first woman successfully elected to the provincial legislature.
