enzymology, a phosphomannomutase (EC number|188.8.131.52) is an enzymethat catalyzes the chemical reaction
:alpha-D-mannose 1-phosphate D-mannose 6-phosphate
Hence, this enzyme has one substrate,
alpha-D-mannose 1-phosphate, and one product, D-mannose 6-phosphate.
This enzyme belongs to the family of
isomerases, specifically the phosphotransferases (phosphomutases), which transfer phosphate groups within a molecule. The systematic name of this enzyme class is alpha-D-mannose 1,6-phosphomutase. Other names in common use include mannose phosphomutase, phosphomannose mutase, and D-mannose 1,6-phosphomutase. This enzyme participates in fructose and mannose metabolism. It has 2 cofactors: D-glucose 1,6-bisphosphate, and D-Mannose 1,6-bisphosphate.
As of late 2007, 18 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes PDB link|1K2Y, PDB link|1K35, PDB link|1P5D, PDB link|1P5G, PDB link|1PCJ, PDB link|1PCM, PDB link|1WQA, PDB link|2AMY, PDB link|2F7L, PDB link|2FKF, PDB link|2FKM, PDB link|2FUC, PDB link|2FUE, PDB link|2H4L, PDB link|2H5A, PDB link|2I54, PDB link|2I55, and PDB link|2Q4R.
CAS registry numberfor this enzyme class is CAS registry|59536-73-1."
