Le Roy is a city in Mower County, Minnesota in Le Roy Township. The population was 925 at the 2000 census. Lake Louise State Park is just outside of the town.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 925 people, 411 households, and 249 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,455.9 people per square mile (558.0/km²). There were 433 housing units at an average density of 681.5/sq mi (261.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.24% White, 0.11% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 0.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.

There were 411 households out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 35.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.90.In the city the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $34,286, and the median income for a family was $45,156. Males had a median income of $29,792 versus $18,125 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,446. About 3.6% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.1% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.
