SirsiDynix

SirsiDynix is a United States company that develops and sells computer software for libraries. It is the world's largest supplier of library software. The present company was formed by the merger of two library software companies, Sirsi Corporation and Dynix Corporation, in June 2005. Sirsi had previously taken over another major library software company, Data Research Associates (DRA), in 2001. [" [http://www.infotoday.com/it/oct01/news1.htm SIRSI Completes DRA Acquisition] ". InformationToday. v. 18 iss. 9. October 2001.] Sirsi was founded in 1979 and Dynix in 1983. [" [http://www.sirsidynix.com/Company/ SirsiDynix: Company Overview] "]

The main product inherited from Sirsi is the Unicorn integrated library system (ILS). The equivalent products from Dynix Corporation are Horizon and the earlier-generation Dynix system. Dynix was first developed on mainframe computers and is still widely used in libraries throughout the world. Dynix Corporation obtained the trademark for the term "Dynix" from IBM in 2001. Prior to the appearance of web-based catalog interfaces, Dynix-based library catalogs could be remotely accessed using Dialcat.

The latest ILS product is SirsiDynix Symphony, released in December 2007. SirsiDynix is also introducing a new facted search product called Enterprise. SirsiDynix also has released a product called Director's Station.
