Waikato Institute of Technology

The Waikato Institute of Technology, marketed as Wintec, is a technological learning institute based in Hamilton, New Zealand, and the fifth largest institute of technology/polytechnic within New Zealand, with around 16,000 full-time and part-time students, 1,200 full-time and part-time staff - and more than 150 programmes.

It has three main campuses in Hamilton itself: the main city site, Avalon on the northern outskirts, and the Hamilton Gardens horticultural campus. History

The current institution stems from the "The Waikato Polytechnic", previously the "Waikato Technical Institute", and further back to the "Hamilton Technical College' founded in 1924 to provide technical and trades training [ [http://www.wintec.ac.nz/index.asp?pageID=2145821714 "About Us - Wintec History and Overview", from Wintec website] ] .

The "Wintec" branding was adopted in 2003.

Students

In the year 2006 there were 26,812 enrolled students, 6,469 of them were full time students [EFTS] and 1,605 graduates.

Students studying at Wintec are members of, and represented by, the Students' Association of the Waikato Institute of Technology (SAWIT).
