Richard Marriott

Richard Marriott (born 1951) is active as a composer, performer, and instrument builder. He has composed extensively for film, television, dance, theater, opera, installations and video games, encompassing styles ranging from the avant garde to the commercial mainstream. He is the founder and artistic director of the Club Foot Orchestra, the premiere ensemble for live music performance with silent films. His new group, Ensemble Lumiere New York, was recently unveiled at New York's Rubin Museum. His compositions are available on the Amour Fou label.

Composing credits also include music for the feature film "Rising Sun" starring Sean Connery and directed by Phil Kaufman, the score for the Academy Award nominee "Silver into Gold", music for the CBS series "The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat" also the score for "" commissioned by Gamelan Sekar Jaya and composed for Balinese gamelan, string quartet, trumpet and clarinet. He was employed as a staff composer for Atari Games 1992-1997 and contributed compositions for LeapFrog Enterprises (1996- 2004). He has worked with California-based choreographer Della Davidson since 1991, and in New York with Yoshika Chuma's School of Hard Knocks and choreographer Yin Mei.

Many of his recent compositions are especially noteworthy in their innovative synthesis of Asian and Western elements. A current collaboration with Beijing-based libretist Xu Ying, entitled "Prince Lan Ling", is scored for Western Symphonic Orchestra, Chinese instruments and singers, chorus and dancers.
