Clandestine Root

Clandestine Root was a very successful, though unsigned band in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Primarily a "soul" group, they drew a large fan base in northern England, where they performed in pubs, and clubs for almost ten years. Based in Leeds in Northern England they played covers of songs bymost of the Stax, Atlantic and Motown artists as well as more commercial style music, depending on the venue.

The band was originally made up of the following members, Bill Young, Andy Doran, Dave Gillon, Ray Burton, Pete Waterhouse, Mark Sommers, Mick Reynolds, Mick O'Brien.The original name for the band was "The Clandestine Root Soul Show", later shortened to The Clandestine Root.

The band backed up many headline acts: The Temptations, J.J. Jackson and the smallest greatest soul band on earth

The band is still performing but sadly only two of the original members are still in the line up, Mick O'Brien (singer) and Bill Young (keyboards). The bands current line up consists of drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, tenor sax, alto sax, trombone, trumpets (x2) and singer, with the shortly to be added addition of a female vocalist as well.
