Rob Talbot

Rob Talbot

Robert Leslie Gapper (Rob) Talbot (born 1923) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. He was the Post Master General as well as the Minister of Tourism and Robert Muldoon loyalist.

He represented the Ashburton electorate in Parliament from 1966 to 1969, then the South Canterbury electorate from 1969 to 1978, then the Ashburton electorate again from 1978 to 1987, when he retired. He was replaced by Jenny Shipley. The Dominion of July 12 2008, page A5 reported that Talbot was now one of the first people in the world to own the new generation iphone. "The great grandfather lined up for more than four hours outside Vodophone's Lambton Quay store." it reported. As Postmaster General he had signed off on New Zealand's first cellular network in 1983.
