Haifa to anArab Orthodox family in the year 1919, he studied in the Orthodox School inHaifa then he went toJerusalem to the Zion College to complete his high school studies.He joined the
Cambridge university and left it in 1939 when theworld war 2 started. In that year he joined the Palestinian communists. In 14 May, 1944 the first edition of the "Al-Ittihad" (الاتحاد) newspaper was published and Emile Tuma was its first president and editor.He was arrested in Lebanon in 1948 and in 1949 he went back to
Haifa and continued working as the editor of the "Al-Ittihad" newspaper.in 1965 he joined the eastrization foundation inMoscow where he got his PhD for his book "مسيرة الشعوب العربية ومشاكل الوحدة العربية".In 1942, along with Dr.
Haidar Abdel-Shafi , and the lateMukhlis Amer ,Emile Habibi andMufid Nashashibi , Toma was a founder of thePalestinian National Liberation League . TheEmil Touma Institute for Palestinian Studies is named after him. Emile wrote 15 books and hundreds of articles about politics, history and culture.
