Filipino-Spaniards ( _es. Filipino-Españoles), are Spanish citizens with ancestry from the Philippines. There are about 40,000 Filipinos living in Spain.

History

The first Filipino settlement in Spain dates back to the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines between the 16th and 19th centuries. Most Filipinos who migrated to Spain were either mestizos of Spanish ancestry; Tornatrás, indigenous Filipino ethnic groups, or Chinese Filipinos; who were sent there by the Spanish government to obtain work and education. Many Filipinos and Spaniards migrated to Spain during, and after the Spanish-American War of 1898.

During World War II in the early 20th century; thousands of Filipinos settled in Spain as refugees.

Filipinos who haved lived in Spain for several centuries are either mestizos who were born and raised there; or contract and overseas workers. In recent times, a number of Filipinos in Spain worked in various jobs and companies. These include ESL teaching in Spanish schools, and Universities; and other employment. A minority also worked in the entertainment and sporting industry.
