"The Indianapolis Star" is a daily
newspaperwhich began publishing on June 6, 1903.
It began as a morning daily paper in competition with two other
Indianapolisdailies, the " Indianapolis Journal" and the " Indianapolis Sentinel", which it eventually took over. In 1948, "The Star" owner Eugene C. Pulliampurchased rival evening paper the " Indianapolis News". In 1999, "The News" ceased publication, leaving "The Star" as the only major daily paper in Indianapolis. The Star was acquired by Gannettin 2000, leaving Indianapolis with no locally owned daily newspaper.
