ICD-10

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-10) is a coding of diseases and signs, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of injury or diseases, as classified by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Work on ICD-10 began in 1983 and was completed in 1992 [ [http://www.who.int/classifications/icd/en/ WHO | International Classification of Diseases (ICD) ] ] .

Derivatives

Other countries have created their own extensions to ICD-10. For example, Australia introduced their first edition of [http://nis-web.fhs.usyd.edu.au/ncch_new/2.aspx# "ICD-10-AM"] in 1998, and Canada introduced [http://secure.cihi.ca/cihiweb/dispPage.jsp?cw_page=codingclass_icd10_e "ICD-10-CA"] in 2000.
