Roseville is a city in Macomb County in the
U.S. stateof Michigan, and is a part of the Metro Detroitarea. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 48,129. Until 1958, Roseville was a part of Erin Township.
According to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.8 square miles (25.5 km²), of which, 9.8 square miles (25.4 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.20%) is water.

As of the
censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 48,129 people, 19,976 households, and 12,724 families residing in the city. The population densitywas 4,905.6 per square mile (1,894.3/km²). There were 20,519 housing units at an average density of 2,091.4/sq mi (807.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.43% White, 2.60% African American, 0.42% Native American, 1.63% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.50% of the population.
There were 19,976 households out of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,220, and the median income for a family was $49,244. Males had a median income of $40,113 versus $26,281 for females. The
per capita incomefor the city was $19,823. About 6.1% of families and 7.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.9% of those under age 18 and 5.8% of those age 65 or over.
