Edinburg (also Edinburgh) is an unincorporated community in Grundy County,
Missouri ,United States , five miles west of Trenton.It is the birthplace of
Enoch Crowder , founder of the United StatesSelective Service .The hamlet, was the first in Grundy County and was called "Buck Snort" in 1838 [ [http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/moser/grundypl.html thelibrary.org profile of Grundy County - Retrieved October 14, 2007] ] when Grundy County's first white settler William Preston Thompson established his house. A home of Thompson, for whom the Thompson Branch of the
Grand River (Missouri) is named, is in nearbyCrowder State Park .It was formally platted in 1851 and by 1881 had two hotels, two grocery and dry goods stores, a drug store, a wagon manufacturer, and two blacksmith shops and a population of 300.
It is named for the Scottish city of
Edinburgh .
