Hawcoat

Hawcoat is a ward (area) of the British town Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, North West England. It is the most northerly ward in Barrow and in 2001 had a population of 5,307 [http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/LeadKeyFigures.do?a=3&b=5948010&c=Hawcoat&d=14&e=16&g=431821&i=1001x1003x1004&m=0&r=1&s=1191862633546&enc=1] . The ward has more female residents than male and is the most ethnically diverse ward of Barrow, with recent estimates stating 87% of the wards population as being of any White background, 6% of any Asian race (Hawcoat has the highest number and percentage of South Asians in Cumbria), 4% Black, and 3% as Other, around half or the wards population was born outside of the town (with many of the non-indigenous being employed by the NHS at Furness General Hospital which is situated in the ward). Hawcoat covers an area of 4.58 square kilometres and has a population density of 1,160/km² (compared to 924/km² in Barrow as a whole).
