Fazuelos

Fazuelos

Fazuelos, fijuelas or deblas are traditional Jewish pastries. They are the Sephardic equivalent to the Ashkenazi hamantashen. They represent "Haman's ears" and they are usually eaten for Purim, although some families eat them for Yom Kippur.

Specifically, a fazuelo is a fried thin dough made of flour and a large number of eggs. Turkish Jews add brandy to the dough and Moroccan Jews eat them with cinnamon and syrup.
