Introduction

The International VELUX Award for Students of Architecture takes place every second year, next time in 2008. The International VELUX Award 2008 for Students of Architecture challenges students of architecture worldwide to explore the theme of sunlight and daylight in its widest sense to create a deeper understanding of this specific and ever-relevant source of light and energy. The overall Award theme is "Light of Tomorrow". The winners are appointed by an international jury. Registration for the International VELUX Award 2008 will be open from 1 October 2007.

Jury

In 2006, the International VELUX Award received 557 entries representing 225 schools in 53 countries. All submitted projects were evaluated by an international jury consisting of renowned architects and other building professionals. In 2006 the jury consisted of:

Kengo Kuma, Kengo Kuma & Associates (Japan)

Róisín Heneghan, heneghan.peng.architects (Ireland)

Omar Rabie, MIT student (Egypt)

Douglas Steidl, AIA President, appointed by UIA (USA)

Per Olaf Fjeld, Oslo School of Architecture, EAAE Vice President (Norway) (jury chairman)

Massimo Buccilli, General Manager, VELUX Italy

Winners

In 2006 Louise Groenlund (Denmark) won the International VELUX Award for her project ”A museum of photography”. All in all 20 winners and honourable mentions were announced at the Award event at the Guggenheim Bilbao. In 2004 the first prize went to Claes Heske Ekornås (Norway) for his project “Light as matter”. In 2004, ten winners were announced at the Award event in Paris. Link til pdf’er.
