David Vidal Tomé (born 2 August 1950 in Portosín-Porto do Son, A Coruña, Galicia) is a Spanish football manager.

Managerial career

After an unassuming playing career (the central defender never played in the first or second divisions), Vidal took up coaching in 1982, first with Cádiz CF, his adopted city, where he had hung up his boots.

He began with the Andalusians' youth sides, then moved to assistant manager, being finally appointed head coach for 1988–89, after a brief interim spell in 1987. It was during that time he managed arguably the club's ever best player, Salvadoran Mágico González, of whom he once said: "Technically he was better than Maradona".[1]

After two 1/2 additional years in the topflight with modest CD Logroñés, which always maintained its status, Vidal resumed his career mainly in the second level. On 12 January 2007, he was appointed manager of Elche CF, following the sacking of Luis García.[2] On 12 October 2008, following a draw at Celta de Vigo, which meant Elche only managed two points from seven games, the manager was sacked, following a meeting with the club's directors. His assistant, former Spain and Deportivo de La Coruña striker Claudio Barragán was temporarily placed in charge of the team.[3]

On 17 March 2010, the board of directors of Albacete Balompié announced that Vidal would replace Julián Rubio as manager of the second division outfit, until the end of the season.[4] After helping the Castile-La Mancha side avoid relegation, as 15th, he was released.

Vidal returned to Albacete midway through the 2010–11 season, replacing fired Antonio Calderón. He was also sacked after only one 1/2 months in charge, as the team was eventually relegated to the third division after 21 years.
