"Público" (Spanish for "Public") is a Spanish daily national newspaper launched on
September 26, 2007. It is owned by the media group Mediaproand edited by Ignacio Escolar, who has previously worked in Informativos Telecinco, Localiaand " La Voz de Almería" and his own blog, Escolar.net.
Escolar and Mediapro founded the paper as an alternative to Spain's best-selling newspaper center-left newspaper, "
El País", and as the country's first national newspaper geared toward youth. "Público" is two-thirds the length of its competitors and its price is less than half.
