Eirias High School is situated in Colwyn Bay, North Wales. The school has around 1500 pupils and over 90 teachers and staff. The school’s name is derived from its location, the grounds of Eirias Park which is a Welsh word, loosely translated to Red Hot. Its modern facilities include up-to-date science laboratories, modern computing facilities, and a high-speed school internet network. The current headmaster is Phil McTague, who took over from Clive Hampton in 2006. The school's dress code is a maroon jumper with the Eirias crest (a book with a tree coming out of it) on it, black trousers/skirt, a white shirt and a tie with black, maroon and silver stripes. In the 2008-2009 term four houses were introduced with different tie colours for each; red, green, blue and yellow. At the same time as the introduction of the houses a new block has been started to be built.

Awards

The school has been recognized as an outstanding school in which to study. Awards include the WSSA School Award, Most Improved School, European Curriculum Award, Recognition of Quality Award, School Curriculum Award, Award of Community Service Excellence and the award and subsequent re-awards of Charter Mark and Investors in People status. As well as this, a number of teachers have won regional and national teaching awards.

In 2000, Eirias was the 19th best performing secondary school in Wales based on 5 GCSE passes, grades A-C, but according to the latest inspection report from Estyn it is now in joint 5th place with Cardiff High School with a pass rate of 80%.

Notable alumni

Famous ex-pupils include:
* Steve Morgan, the multi-millionaire founder of Redrow plc
* Helen Willetts, who works as part of the BBC's weather broadcasting team
