Thierry Mariani (b. 8 August 1958 in Orange, Vaucluse) is a French politician of the Union for a Popular Movement. He is a close collaborator of Nicolas Sarkozy.

Mariani heads the parliamentary group of cafés, hotels, restaurants and discotheques of the French National Assembly.

Career

In September 2002, Mariani took part in the Iraq hostage affair along with Didier Julia and Éric Diard.

During the parliamentary debates on the DADVSI, Mariani proposed the so-called "Vivendi-Universal amendement", hence named because they were deemed favourable to industry majors, and apparently suggested by Vivendi-Universal itself.

In September 2007, Mariani proposed an amendment to immigration laws to legalise DNA paternity testing to be used in the context of family reunification (later refused by the French senate), and another to authorise racial and ethnical statistics. He also proposed an amendment to reduce delay for appealing a Right of asylum-related decision from four weeks to two.
