"Virtua Tennis 2" (known as "Tennis 2K2" in the US and "Power Smash 2" in Japan) is a sequel to "Virtua Tennis" that was released for the Sega Dreamcast, Sega NAOMI arcade unit and Sony's PlayStation 2 (known as "Sega Sports Tennis") in 2001. New features included the ability to slice and play as female players (such as Monica Seles, Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Lindsay Davenport) and mixed doubles matches. The game was created and produced by Hitmaker, with Acclaim Entertainment publishing it in Europe for the PS2. The PS2 version is compatible with the multitap, allowing for four players on one console at the same time.

Trivia

* Virtua Tennis 2 was one of the last games released on the Dreamcast in Europe in 2001 - the game was in shops in November on the same weekend as Shenmue 2 (another massive Dreamcast title). During the following year several more games were released in Europe until eventually all Dreamcast distribution was stopped.
* The game features a hugely expanded version of the World Tour mode found in the original Virtua Tennis and allows the player to unlock many different courts, rackets, and items of clothing.
* The PlayStation 2 version (released in 2002) was noticeably visually worse than the Dreamcast version and featured the well known system issue of "jaggies" and some of the general graphic "sheen" was missing. European copies of the game were blue discs, which causes problems for Playstation 2s that have the infamous 'disk read error' problem.
* "King" and "Queen" are the bonus "boss" characters of the game and are faced as the final doubles team in the world tour mode. They are also unlockable to play in tournament mode by winning every match without losing a single game and then, by beating King (or Queen - depending on the sex of your player) in the final. There are 99 levels of King and Queen to beat.
