Silver Grove is a city in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,215 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Silver Grove is located at coor dms|39|2|13|N|84|23|55|W|city (39.036902, -84.398652)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.6 km²), of which, 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²) of it is land and 0.9 square miles (2.4 km²) of it (49.72%) is water.

Climate

Silver Grove is located within a climatic transition zone; it is situated at the extreme northern limit of the humid subtropical climate and the extreme southern limit of the humid continental climate. The overall climate in Silver Grove is more mild than would normally be expected for this area primarily because the local climate is moderated by several miles of large hills in any direction, the Ohio River, being situated in a valley, and lying to the east of several metropolitan areas (Cincinnati, Covington, Newport) which combine to produce an urban heat microclimate for the area.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,215 people, 474 households, and 317 families residing in the city. The population density was 999.8 people per square mile (384.5/km²). There were 496 housing units at an average density of 408.1/sq mi (157.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.44% White, 0.16% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.25% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.55% of the population.

There were 474 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 30.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.16.

In the city the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 18.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 115.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $32,448, and the median income for a family was $41,691. Males had a median income of $36,083 versus $23,977 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,129. About 8.8% of families and 10.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.2% of those under age 18 and 12.9% of those age 65 or over.
