The Collage Box

The Collage Box is an ongoing project of collagists based on the art community site DeviantArt. Its main function is to create boxes containing collage artwork. The artwork will then be sent to exhibitions and galleries to display the pieces. This project is notable because of the strong sense of creation, not only for the artists' recognition, but for the greater aspect of introducing collage art as a strong medium in the art world.

Origin

It is not know the exact date of conception, but the DeviantArt site was created on August 8, 2007 at 11:22 AM. The creators are known to be Oscar Gee, whose online alias is [http://www.pierrots-frown.deviantart.com Pierrots-Frown] and [http://www.pxcorporation.com Px(c)] . Both of these artists are attributional to the creation of The Collage Box.

The Collage Box Manifesto

The following is a detailed explanation of what the project will entail. The actual text is taken from a journal on the website dated August 10, 2007.

;Who?
* Somewhere in the region of 15 artists from all over the world who have a keen interest in the art form of collage and getting it out to a wider audience

;What?
* Collage box is a collaborative project devoted to promoting, exhibiting and selling collage as an art form.
* It consists in a series of small boxes containing everything needed to set up a collage exhibition in any given place.
* The boxes will be filled with collage art from participating artists, as well as installation devices and press material.
* Every artist related to the project will be able to have a box to set up a show in his or her area. Professional art organizations, galleries or shop will also be able to have a box to set up an event.
* Boxes will move from one place to another, giving all the artists a good visibility all around the world.
* A website will be created to promote the project and associated artists as well as to document the boxes' itinerary and content.

;Where?
* To be displayed anywhere where the artist can find in their local area (coffee shops / art galleries / community centres etc.)

;Why?
* Collage art has too little visibility in galleries and other exhibiting places even if it's probably the most dynamic art form right now. It’s mistaken with scrap booking as an artisan craft.
* Professional galleries are often asking artists to have a lot of experience before giving them interesting opportunities.
* Because of its size and nature (on paper), collage is perfect for collaborations and other projects that require art being mailed.

;When?
* Exhibitions hopefully to start in early 2008
