Arrowcar

The Arrowcar was a specially designed arrow-shaped [ [http://members.aol.com/MG4273/greena.htm The Arrowcar is one of the most creative aspects of Green Arrow' mythos. The car looks like a giant arrow: typical of the endless arrow imagery in GA's world. It is also loaded with technological gimmicks.] ] automobile used by the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow [ [http://www.mykey3000.com/cosmicteams/tommorrow/G/Greenarrowearth2.htm Arrow was a skilled hand-to-hand fighter and his primary means of transport was the Arrowcar. ... fought crime as the mysterymen Green Arrow and Speedy. ...] ] and his sidekick Speedy.

Design

The design and function of the Arrowcar was similar to that of Batman's Batmobile [ [http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/HERORPG/Ollie.html In keeping up with what Batman and Robin had, both Green Arrow and Speedy would have a mustard colored "Arrow Car" (which had a catapult Oliver loved to spring himself and Speedy up into the air to go head to head with criminals in tough spots), an "Arrow Jet" which Oliver would crash before heading into the monastery, an "Arrow Cave" underneath the Queen mansion, and every bit of "trick arrows" money could buy.] ] . The Arrowcar [ [http://spider-bob.com/heroes/dc/GreenArrowI.htm Arrowcar: Automobile equipped with a wide variety of crime fighting accessories.] ] [ [http://members.aol.com/MG4273/greena.htm This story emphasizes the high speed of the Arrowcar (here called the Arrowplane), the fastest of all land vehicles. This is a common theme in the early stories; it will not appear very much in later, 1950's GA tales. This fascination with speed also appears in Weisinger's Johnny Quick stories.] ] (inexplicably called 'the Arrow-Plane' [ [http://members.aol.com/MG4273/greena.htm While the Arrowcar is called the Arrowplane here, it already has the distinctive arrow-like rear flange. The Arrowplane is described as "streamlined", that obsession of 1930's design, which gave objects the appearance of speed and efficiency.] ] [ [http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=arrowcar First Appearance: (first version, called 'Arrow Plane'): More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941) (as Arrow-Car): World's Finest Comics #12 (Winter 1943)] ] in the beginning [ [http://www.supermanartists.comics.org/goldage/GreenArrow.htm In World's Finest 12 in January 1944, new writer Joe Samachson re-christened the Arrowplane as the Arrow-Car. However, it was in use for many years and there were several versions of it, all with various upgrades and re-designs.

Later usage

After Green Arrow/Oliver Queen lost his fortune [Green Arrow - Neal Adams and Dennis O'Neil, 1969–1983] , the car in return, became too expensive to keep. However, various wrecks of the cars became highly prized among collectors of super-memorabilia. For example, the Arrowcar was once destroyed during a fight between Green Arrow, Arsenal and Solomon Grundy [ [http://www.dcdatabaseproject.com/Green_Arrow_18_(Volume_3,_2002) Grundy picks up the old dusty Arrowcar and throws it at Ollie who ... When a fully functional Arrowcar went on the auction block for sale [ [http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/reviews/10721397628194.htm Green Arrow #33. Posted: Monday, December 22. For instance the criminal Scavenger claimed it for his weapon collection, but Batman bought it on Green Arrow's behalf. However, once it broke down on the way back to Star City after picking it up, Green Arrow decided to destroy it after all, using the same detonator he used the first time, but this time knowing it would work since he had had it fixed by Superman.
