Lloyd Schermer (born 1927 in St. Louis,
Missouri ) is an American businessman andartist .Schermer served in the
United States Navy duringWorld War II . He attendedAmherst College graduating in 1950, then earned anMBA fromHarvard University . During the 1960s, he was the publisher of a newspaper inMissoula, Montana . In 1970 he moved toIowa and became thechief executive officer ofLee Enterprises , a national newspaper and media company. Schermer served as a director and as chairman of the American Newspaper Publishers Association in Washington, DC, now known as theNewspaper Association of America .Fact|date=September 2007In 1993, with no previous training, Schermer took courses in drawing and watercolor. Since then, he has exhibited several works of original art. Three of his
monotype s were added to theNational Gallery of Art in 2002. He serves on the board of The Anderson Ranch Art Center inSnowmass Village, Colorado , is a trustee of theAspen Institute and the University of Montana Foundation, and is a former trustee of theAspen Center for Environmental Studies , theWorld Wildlife Fund and theMaureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation .Schermer resides in Aspen and
