Winter Pan American Games

The Winter Pan American Games was an original project of PASO after the first Pan American Games in Buenos Aires 1951, but was given away because the non interest of Pan American nations. The project was replanned after the Summer Pan American Games in Indianapolis 1987. There was a meeting between the PASO nations and the participants of 1988 Winter Olympics in Mar Del Plata, Argentina and was combined that the first Winter pan American Games should be realized in Las Leñas, Argentina in 1989 and held every four years.

The first Winter Pan American Games was not realized in 1989 because climate conditions and was canceled to 1990 between September 16 to 22 with 8 participating nations: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and United States with 97 athletes. Only Canada and United States scored medals.

The second Winter Pan American Games was to take place in Santiago, Chile in 1993, but due to dating problems, the United States Olympic Committee give up to participate, and the PASO made the decision to cancel the games.

Nowadays there's a project to bring back the Winter Pan American Games, some American winter Olympic committees are trying to make a meeting with PASO to set up a new host city to the event that should be on some city that already hosted a previous edition of Winter Olympics.
