Swimming at the 1999 Summer Universiade

The swimming competition at the 1999 Summer Universiade took place in Palma de Mallorca, Spain from July 4 to July 9, 1999. Four new records were set during this edition: Noriko Inada (Japan) in the women's 100 metre backstroke (01:01.06), Miki Nakao (Japan) in the women's 200 metre backstroke (02:10.32), Japan in the women's 4×100 metre medley relay (04:09.90) and Mark Warkentin (USA) in the men's 800 metre freestyle (08:00.81), who won a total number of four gold medals. The five-title record was previously attained by Hungary's Martha Egervari (1963), America's Jill Sterkel (1981) and Romania's Noemi Lung (1987).

The competition unfolded again in the new Son Hugo complex specially built for the Universiade. It has two ten-lane Olympic pools (one outdoors and one indoors) and a 25 metre diving pool. The outdoors facility seats 5000 and the indoors pool 2000.
