Crotalus totonacus is a venomous pitviper species found in northeastern Mexico. No subspecies are currently recognized.[3]

Description

Adults frequently grow to more than 150 cm in length. The largest recorded specimen was 166.5 cm in length.[2]

Geographic range

Found in northeastern Mexico from central Nuevo León through southern Tamaulipas, northern Veracruz, eastern San Luis Potosí and northern Querétaro.[2] The type locality given is "Panaco Island, about 75 miles south of Tampic, Veracruz, Mexico, 12 miles inland from Cabo Rojo" (121 km and 19 km, respectively).[1]

Taxonomy

This species was previously considered a subspecies of C. durissus.[1]
