Ogden is a city in Yell Township, Boone County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,023 at the 2000 census. It is part of the 'Boone, Iowa Micropolitan Statistical Area', which is a part of the larger 'Ames-Boone, Iowa Combined Statistical Area'.

Geography

Ogden is located at 42°2′24″N 94°1′50″W / 42.04°N 94.03056°W / 42.04; -94.03056 (42.040057, -94.030678)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,023 people, 823 households, and 585 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,472.3 people per square mile (570.1/km²). There were 879 housing units at an average density of 639.7 per square mile (247.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.01% White, 0.05% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.79% of the population.

There were 823 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.9% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.90.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $41,114, and the median income for a family was $46,949. Males had a median income of $32,054 versus $22,679 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,542. About 1.2% of families and 2.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.7% of those under age 18 and 3.4% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Children in Ogden, Iowa attend the Ogden Community School District and Ogden High School.[3]
