Bhaca

Bhaca

The Bhaca people are mainly found in the small towns of the former Transkei, Mount Frere and UMzimkhulu, and some surrounding areas. The language spoken by these people is isiBhaca. They are called "AmaBhaca". The name comes from 'ukubhaca', Nguni is for fleeing. They fled from the present day KwaZulu Natal after a BIG-Clash with the then Zulu King Shaka. They were led their Mighty King Madzikane into the present-day Eastern Cape. Madzikane is still a very respected King in Mount Frere among the Bhaca people. This tribe has now formed part of the Xhosa people of the province, but their culture is unique and not that related to the Xhosa culture.
