Bagel dog

Bagel dog

A bagel dog is a food item consisting of a full-size or miniature hot dog wrapped in bagel-style breading before or after cooking. They are similar in concept to a corn dog or pigs in a blanket. Bagel dogs are commonly available for purchase at prepared-food concession stands and frozen in grocery stores in the New York City area, but are more difficult to find elsewhere. Bagel dogs were invented by Seth Teitler, a New York City deli proprietor, in 1943 in order to provide a kosher alternative to corn dogs which were growing in popularity at the time but usually made with hot dogs containing non-kosher meats. Teitler's Deli in Manhattan advertises itself as "the home of the original kosher bagel dog" today.
