Elections in the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man partially elects its legislature at the national level. The High Court of Tynwald consists of two chambers. The House of Keys has 24 members, elected for a five year term in multi- and single-seat constituencies. The Legislative Council has 11 members: two ex-officio members and eight other members who are elected from the House of Keys for a five year term. It is a community in which political parties traditionally didn't play an important role, however 2006 saw an erosion of the non-party political nature of Manx elections.

The Isle of Man lowered its voting age to 16 in 2006.

The Liberal Vannin Party (LVP) was founded in 2006 by Onchan MHK Peter Karran. The Liberal Vannin Party put forward several candidates at the 2006 general election, and campaigns on a platform of greater accountability and openness in government.
