Ge digital cameras

Ge digital cameras

The first digital cameras to feature the General Electric brand name were introduced in March 2007. The cameras are positioned as easy-to-use, sexy-on-the-outside, smart-on-the-inside alternatives to existing brands. The GE camera brand is also known as "General Imaging".

The digital camera line is pitched as more attractively designed, easier to use, and loaded with advanced features, including in-camera panoramic stitching, which makes them more economical than other brands.cite web

A digital camera is an electronic device used to capture and store photographs digitally, rather than using photographic film as conventional cameras do, or recording images in an analog format to magnetic tape as many video cameras do. Digital cameras typically are multifunctional, with some devices capable of recording sound and/or video as well. [Wikipedia. “Digital Camera” Accessed October 24, 2007.]

PMA 2008 Announcements

GE introduced nine new models at the PMA 2008 conference: A735, A835, G2, G3, E840s, E1035, E1050, E1235, X3 [http://www.dpreview.com/news/0802/08020101gee1050.asp]

Engadget reports that the E1050 uses Geotate GPS technology. [http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/31/hands-on-with-general-imagings-e-1050/]

A Series

The entry-level GE-branded digital cameras. Designed for first-time buyers and those upgrading from first-generation digital cameras. Both models in this series include a 2.5-inch LCD screen. Powered by two AA alkaline batteries.

* ‘‘‘A730’’’ features a 3X optical zoom and 7 megapixels of resolution.

The A730 is the most affordable point-and-shoot GE-branded camera. A 3X optical zoom and a 4.5X digital zoom make possible “closer close-ups” than other point-and-shoots, GE says. The LCD screen is 2.5 inches.

Powered by two AA batteries, the A730 has an SD/SDHC memory card slot expandable up to 4 gigabytes.

* ‘‘‘A830’’’ offers 3X optical zoom and 8 megapixels. A powerful point-and-shoot camera that all has the zoom capabilities and other features of the A730 and comes with 8 megapixels.

E Series

The intermediate level of the GE-branded camera models, the E series features larger screens and is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Memory can be expanded up to 4 gigabytes with SD or SDHC memory cards.

* ‘‘‘E850’’’ Includes a 28mm equivalent wide-angle lens, a 5X optical zoom and 8 megapixels. The wide-angle lens makes taking indoor group pictures possible without squeezing everybody uncomfortably close together to fit into the shot. The 5X optical zoom and the 4.5X digital zoom provide focal flexibility. The camera comes with a 3-inch LCD screen.

“The E850 does have some of the features you expect in higher priced models -- including electronic image stabilization and a panorama mode that can stitch together several shots into a single scene. I tested it at Yankee Stadium the day Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th home run. Although our seats were in the highest part of the stands off the left field foul line, the E850 did a great job of stitching together the view of the stadium -- and even zoomed in close enough on A-Rod's second at-bat to show the ball hit the slugger's elbow,” wrote David Radin of the Pittsburgh ‘‘Post-Gazette.’’ [Radin, David. And Mark Baard of ‘‘The Boston Globe’’ commented: “Just as I was about to give digital cameras a rest in this column, a gorgeous little device popped up in RadioShack stores last week. The E850, made for GE by General Imaging, has a surprisingly rich feature set. ... At $200, it’s an incredible bargain.” [Baard, Mark. [http://general-imaging.com/us/news-media/Boston-Globe.pdf “A surprisingly rich little camera”] , ‘‘The Boston Globe’, June 18, 2007. Accessed June 18, 2007. ]

* ‘‘‘E1030’’’Offers a 3X optical zoom and 10 megapixels. The E1030 has a 3X optical zoom and 4.5X digital zoom, which combine for a maximum zoom of 13.5X. The LCD screen is 2.7 inches.

* ‘‘‘E1040’’’Includes 4X optical zoom, 4.5X digital zoom; and 10 megapixels. 3-inch LCD screen.

* ‘‘‘E1240’’’Features 12 megapixels. A 4X optical zoom and a 4.5X digital zoom combine to create a maximum zoom of 18X; 3-inch LCD screen.

G Series

* ‘‘‘The G1’’’The sleek G1 is the most compact model (3-5/8 inches wide and 2-1/2 inches high) in the GE-branded line. Includes a 3X optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 7 megapixels. Comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and an SD/SDHC memory card slot, expandable up to 4 gigabytes.

“GE's debut digital camera, the aptly named G1, should get noticed when lined up on store shelves next to the current crop of ultra-compact digitals,” wrote Megapixel.net. [Megapixel.net. [http://www.megapixel.net/reviews/ge-g1/geg1-gen.php “GE G1”] , Megapixel.net, June 2007. Accessed June 2007.]

X Series

* ‘‘‘The X1’’’A high-performance camera for the more serious photographer. Boasts 12X optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 8 megapixels and a handgrip. Powered by four AA batteries.

Paired with the camera’s 12X optical zoom is a 4.5X digital zoom. Together, they give the X1 a maximum zoom of 54X. Includes a 4-gigabyte SD/SDHC expansion slot.
