History

The early beginning

Although the company, Mamut, was established in 1994, its origins date back to 1986, when the founder Eilert Hanoa, founded his first IT company at the age of 15. The company sold software to individuals as well as small and mid-sized businesses. In 1987 the company was named “PC World Norway” and began its first major development project, SuperWP, a word processor with an integrated customer base/card index. The company also developed several computer tools (utilities) such as the menu system SuperOffice, CRM software Activator Pro, the tax software WinSkatt and the precursor to the financial system GuruOffice.

After analysing the market for financial systems in Norway, Eilert Hanoa decided to end his MBA studies to work full time with the development of financial systems. Recognised today as Mamut ASA, it was founded by Eilert Hanoa on the 1st of December 1994, with the name Guru Software AS. Central to the business plan was self-developed management systems adapted to small businesses that were to be sold as standard software. The system was based on Microsoft Windows, and integrated with Microsoft Office.

Mamut

In September of 1998, the subsidiary company Mamut ASA was established. The company name, Mamut, was protected and trademarked, and domains were reserved in Norway, Europe and America. In March 1999, Mamut launched new websites and the company launched its first e-Commerce solution named Mamut Web in August that same year. In 1999, Mamut listed its shares on the Oslo Stock Exchange OTC list. In 2000, the parent companies name Guru Software was changed to Mamut and converted into a public limited company, Mamut ASA. In 2000 the number of employees passed 100 and the company issued its first shares towards international investors. In 2001 the product portfolio Mamut Business Software was introduced in Norway to replace the portfolio Guru Business Applications. In 2003 the company reached 100 million NOK in revenue and in May 2004 was included in the OSESX list.
