Asier Newman

Asier Newman was born on 28th July 1980 in Northwick Park Hospital, Wembley, London to Spanish parents. His first name "Asier" originates from the Basque language and means "The beginning of". Asier is fluent in both English and Spanish and was an accomplished sportsman in his youth, swimming at National level in England. At 18 years of age Asier was offered a leading role as Arlo Dean in the British TV soap opera Family Affairs and then spent several years appearing in numerous UK based series such as "Sir Gadabout", "The Bill" and "Casualty".

In 2003 Asier filmed the lead role in the independent feature film "Shem", playing a young Jewish student who searches all over Europe for the grave of his great grandfather who was killed by the Nazis in the war. In 2004 Asier was awarded the Best Actor award at the New York Independent Film Festival for his role in "Shem", making him the youngest winner of this award, previously won by Oscar winner Rod Steiger and Guy Pearce. In 2006 Asier Newman filmed one of the lead roles in the psychological thriller "Caotica Ana" directed by the prolific Spanish director Julio Medem ("The Lovers of the Arctic Circle", "Sex and Lucia"), opposite Charlotte Rampling (the night porter, swimming pool), Luis Homar (Bad Education), Spanish singer Bebe ( La education de las hadas) and newcomer Manuela Velles. In Caotica Ana he plays the character Anglo, an American boy with hypnotic powers. Shortly afterwards Asier began filming his next movie, "The Brøken", directed by prolific fashion photographer and the Oscar nominated Sean Ellis. The Brøken is a horror thriller and Asier stars opposite Lena Headey ("The brothers Grimm", "300") as her brother and Richard Jenkins who plays their father. Other cast members include Melvil Poupaud ("Le Temps Qui Reste"), Michelle Duncan ("Driving Lessons", "Atonement") and Ulrich Thomsen ("Festen").
