On the Carpenters' official web site, Richard Carpenter notes that he felt the song was perfect for his sister Karen's voice and felt their version had hit-single potential. However, A&M Records decided not to release it because it was too long for Top 40 radio stations to play at the time and could not be abridged. Anne Murray's version

Canadian singer Anne Murray included "I Just Fall in Love Again" on her album "New Kind of Feeling" in 1979. Murray released her version as a single, and it topped the Country and Adult Contemporary charts in Billboard magazine while reaching a respectable number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first of a string of three straight #1 country hits and four straight #1 AC hits Murray enjoyed from 1979 to 1980. Though she loved the song, Murray is quoted in "The Billboard Book of Number One Adult Contemporary Hits" as saying she was surprised at its success on the country charts, as she didn't feel the song sounded very "country." Nevertheless, Billboard ranked it as the number one country hit of 1979. Anne included the song as a posthumous duet with her friend Dusty Springfield on the 2008 album .This song has since been performed humorously by comedian Artie Lange, both in his stand-up and on "The Howard Stern Show" he also does a similar rendition of "Gimme Tha Loot" by The Notorious B. I. G..
