Aini Sadriddin

Aini Sadriddin

Aini Sadriddin (1878-1954) was a Tajik poet. He was Tajikistan's national poet and one of the most important writers of the country's history.

Born in village of Saktara of peasant stock, Sadriddin became an orphan at 12 and moved to Bukhara where his older brother studied. Saddridin's initial poems were about love and nature, but after the national awakening of Tajikistan, his subject matter shifted to the dawn of the new age and the working class. His writings often criticised the Amir. Two recognizable writings include "The Slave" and "The Bukhara Executioners". Sadriddin died in Dushanbe where a mausoleum stands in his honor.
