James Black is a fictional character of the anime and manga series Detective Conan.

James Black was born in England and later moved to Chicago. He is introduced in episode 258 where he is mistaken for a famous cowboy from the "Paul and Annie Show". ["Case Closed", Anime Episodes # 258 & # 259.] After being kidnapped, he leaves the Detective Boys a message "P&A", which Conan manages to decipher. ["Case Closed", Anime Episodes # 258 & # 259.] Black manages to escape from the kidnappers thanks to Conan's help and is impressed by the boy. The end of the episode shows Black's connection to Shuichi Akai.

Initially, Conan feels threatened by James Black. Ai asks why this is, seeing as his first name is the same as James Bond's, to which Conan replies that he always related the name to James Moriarty.

It is later revealed that he serves as the one of the older members of the FBI and acts as the head of Jodie Starling and Shuichi Akai. In Episode 425, Black helps Jodie and Conan in their pursuit of Kir and the Black Organization by acting as their driver. ["Case Closed", Anime Episodes # 425.] He also helps in the FBI vs. BO mission in episodes 495-500. ["Case Closed", Anime Episodes # 495-500.]
