Ruby Lane was founded by Tom Johnson and Jim Wilcoxson in 1998 [http://web.archive.org/web/19981212020825/http://rubylane.com/] and named in honor of Johnson's mother Ruby.

In 2005 Wilcoxson left the company and Johnson became President & CEO.
