Zarandona, a player in modest teams in
Spain , with a 2004-05 stint atReal Valladolid , in the "Segunda División ", played for Spanish youth sides fact|date=January 2008 but, in June 2003,FIFA allowed the player to change his nationality. This rule originally applied only for under-21 players not yet capped for the senior sides, but FIFA also allowed overage ones to apply, unil December 2004.Zarandona started representing his "new nation", Equatorial Guinea, in October/November 2003, during the
2006 FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF) 's first round tie loss with Togo. Benjamín, after having represented Spain until the under-21 level, also made the transition.Personal
