The Viscacha Rat ("Octomys mimax") -- or Mountain Viscacha Rat -- is a species of rodent in the Octodontidae family. It is monotypic within the genus "Octomys", and is likely ancestral to both "Tympanoctomys barrerae" and "Pipanacoctomys aureus". It is endemic to Chile and Argentina.
