Fountainbleau is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 59,549 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Fountainbleau is located at coor dms|25|46|13|N|80|20|45|W|city (25.770144, -80.345917)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.5 square miles (11.7 km²), of which, 4.4 square miles (11.4 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (2.43%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 59,549 people, 20,918 households, and 15,604 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 13,524.7 people per square mile (5,225.5/km²). There were 21,881 housing units at an average density of 4,969.6/sq mi (1,920.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 85.19% White (9.4% were Non-Hispanic White,) [cite web |url=http://www.muninetguide.com/states/florida/municipality/Fountainbleau.php |title=Demographics of Fountainbleau, FL |publisher=MuniNetGuide.com |accessdate=2007-11-06] 2.04% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.78% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 6.79% from other races, and 3.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 87.24% of the population.

There were 20,918 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 18.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.22.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $35,509, and the median income for a family was $36,161. Males had a median income of $27,380 versus $22,143 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,716. About 11.9% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.7% of those under age 18 and 15.5% of those age 65 or over.

As of 2000, speakers of Spanish as a first language accounted for 91.29% of residents, while English made up 6.25%, Portuguese was at 0.62%, and Chinese was the mother tongue for 0.48% of the population. As of 2000, Fountainbleau had the second highest percentage of Nicaraguan residents in the US, with 9.44% of the populace (the highest percentage being Sweetwater, FL, at 16.63%.)
