Arjun Kumar Sengupta

Shri Arjun Kumar Sengupta (born 10 June 1937) is an Indian politician who is presently a Member of the Parliament of India, representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha. [http://164.100.24.167:8080/members/website/Mainweb.asp?mpcode=1986 Profile on Rajya Sabha website] .]

Sengupta was born in Kolkata. He was Special Secretary to the Prime Minister of India from 1981 to 1984, Executive Director and Special Advisor to the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund from 1985 to 1990, and then Ambassador of India to the European Union from 1990 to 1993. He was a Member and Member Secretary of the Indian Government's Planning Commission, with the rank of Minister of State, from 1993 to 1998, and in August 2005 he was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
