Róisín Shortall

Róisín Shortall

Róisín Shortall (born April 1954) is an Irish Labour Party politician. She is a Teachta Dála (TD) for Dublin North West and is currently the Party Spokesperson for Transport.

Róisín Shortall was born and reared in Drumcondra, Dublin. She was educated at Dominican College, Eccles Street; University College Dublin, and St. Mary's College of Education, Marino. She worked as a teacher for the deaf before seeking public office. She first became involved in politics in 1991 when she was elected to Dublin City Council. Shortall was first elected to Dáil Éireann in the 1992 general election, when the Labour Party won a record 33 seats, an achievement that has never been equalled. She retained her seat at the 1997, 2002 and the 2007 general elections.

Shortall is currently the Labour Party Spokesperson for Transport.
